About Karla FC Holloway

Karla FC Holloway produces fiction and scholarship examining and illuminating culture, law, and ethics.

Karla FC Holloway has authored eight academic books, including BookMarks: Reading in Black & White (Rutgers 2006), completed during her 2005 Bellagio Residency, and Passed On: African American Mourning Stories (Duke 2002). Her literary works include the Harlem series: A Death in Harlem (Rutgers, 2019), and Gone Missing in Harlem (Triquarterly, 2021; Publisher’s Weekly Starred Review.) Her most recent fiction, The Thursday Lady, is a contemporary political thriller to be released by Rootstock in early 2027. Holloway is Emerita James B. Duke Professor of English and African-American Studies and Professor of Law at Duke University, and indulges in writing the kind of fiction she has enjoyed reading with her book club over the past forty years.
